IAA MISSION STATEMENT

• Provide educational advancement for its members.
• Provide education pertaining to the benefits of auctions to consumers.
• Promote ethical behavior among auctioneers.
• Innovate favorable change within the profession.
• Strengthen the professional status and influence of auctioneers.
• Increase membership and involvement of members of all  aspects of auctions.
• To advance the auction marketing concept as a dynamic and most effective means of marketing assets, IAA must:
  • Promote and influence legislation
  • Educate and influence governmental agencies and leaders in the private sector as to the effectiveness of auction sales
  • Compile and assimilate data pertaining to the effectiveness of auctions for the use and benefits of IAA members.

IAA CODE OF ETHICS

Preamble
The Auctioneer is noted for being able to sell more value and volume in a shorter length of time than any other type of salesman.

The accumulation of Real and Personal Property is the basic source of all wealth and in many instances it constitutes the lifetime savings of our clients. The Auctioneer, in turn, sells this lifetime accumulation of hard work and savings in a matter of a few hours. It is because of this that we, the members of the Indiana Auctioneers Association, do hereby affirm that the functions of an Auctioneer should be strictly professional in character, and that he should be solemn in business, civic and social responsibilities.

Code
Recognizing these obligations we, the members of the Indiana Auctioneers Association, do hereby pledge to each other and to our clients our experience, our knowledge and our honor. Each member of the Indiana Auctioneers Association does hereby subscribe to this Code of Ethics and does hereby agree:

1. to keep informed on current market conditions of Real and Personal Property at all times in order to be in a position to advise and perform services for his clients to the best of his ability.
2. to conduct his professional activities in a manner that will reflect credit upon himself, The Auction Profession, Auctioneers, and the Indiana Auctioneers Association, Inc.
3. that he shall not engage in activities that constitute the practice of law and shall recommend that his clients seek the services of a lawyer when he deems it necessary.
4. to secure auction assignments by referral and through recognition of his professional competence, without unprofessional solicitation or advertisement, and without unprofessional fee bidding.
5. to protect the professional reputation of other Auctioneers who subscribe to, and abide by this Code of Ethics.
6. to use those forms available to him from the Association, or comparable forms, and see that they are properly filled out, signed and placed in the hands of all parties involved at the time they are executed.
7. to refrain from buying or selling at his own auction for personal gain, unless fully disclosed to the Seller.
8. to preserve a professional, confidential relationship with his client, revealing estimated costs and services for conducting the auction.
9. to charge for his services only such fees as are fair, reasonable and in accordance with local practice of similar transactions.
10. to cooperate with the Association and its officers in all matters, including investigation, censure, discipline, or dismissal of members who, by their conduct, prejudice their professional status or the reputation of the Association.
11. that he will be especially careful to present a true picture in all of his advertising.
12. to conform in all respects to this Code of Ethics and to the Standards of Professional Conduct adopted by the Indiana Auctioneers Association, Inc. as the same may be amended from time to time
